Answers to frequently asked questions.
The name "Turb-O-sand" is derived from turbine-round-sanding.
1. How
long does Turbosand last?
Answer
:
The Turbosand gold-colored carrier, for the Turbosand sanding strip,
is non-wearing and basically lasts forever. Turbosand engineers
designed the system so that you don't need a different head for
every profile like you do with many other systems. The Turbosand
strip is actually what does the sanding. It is a profiled strip
constructed of a specially formulated PVC. The sandpaper, which is
3m's finest, is pressed right into the profiled strip during the
manufacturing process. The Turbosand Insert has a normal life of
6000 1f when sanding hardwoods. We do have many customers report
that they exceed 10-120001f when they have the set up just perfect.
Sanding on MDF gets even better at 20-25000 1f with customers
reporting 45-50000 lineal feet.
2. Is Turbosand expensive?
Answer:
Absolutely not! The Turbosand head, which again is the carrier for
the Turbosand insert, costs just $400.00 and lasts forever. The
Turbosand Inserts are priced at $16.00 to $31.00. When you figure
the life we just spoke about, in question one, you are sanding for less
than 1/2 cent per foot !!! In addition, the form blocks, that
are used in belt sanding, are no longer needed. Our competitors
charge up to 5-times as much for their inserts
3. What machines can I put Turbosand on?
Answer: : Turbosand
is operating on a single and double-end tenoners all over the world.
In addition, Turbosand is now operating on CNC and point-to-point
machining centers. Of course it was the creation of Turbosand that
opened up the shaper-sander machinery market and they are operating
on virtually every shaper sander which will hold the required
tolerances
4. Why is Turbosand better than the competition?
Answer:
With some competitors from overseas, the most blatant difference is
cost.
They are complex in nature and someone must pay for that. Some
competitors are charging as much as $60.00 and higher for a sander
insert which gets virtually the same life. Many competitor's
products require a different sanding head with every profile! This
can get terribly expensive.
Turbosand is an American made product and unfortunate mistakes can
be remedied immediately. With overseas products; how long are you
willing to hand sand while you wait for your product to get back to
you!
With sanding belts, you are very
limited to the profile you are able to do. Turbosand now has over
2000 patterns and hundreds of patterns that just would not be
possible on a sanding belt. Simply put, with Turbosand you have no
stretchy abrasive you wrap around a profiled head in hopes of
getting it right, you do not have to glue each segment around the
head and then replace each piece; instead, Turbosand makes it simple
to change a completely formed insert which matches your knives in
less than one minute.
5. Where is Turbosand made, and where do I get it?
Answer:
Americans make Turbosand in Northern California. We have a dealer
network worldwide. Simply go to our
dealer
page , select your state and the closest dealer to you.
